The reputation of our Sprintcar drivers continues to be recognized as they race in Sprintcar Series at many of the famous and historical speedways across the US. Many young talented race car drivers have made the long journey to the States to pit their skills against America’s best in the world’s toughest sprint car series.
Kerry Madson from St Marys in Western Sydney has been a regular runner in the STP World of Outlaws Sprintcar Series and as recently as May 3 won for the first time at the Famous Eldora Speedway. The STP series is unquestionably the finest and toughest Sprintcar series of all. Racing across 26 states at 90 shows the pressure is on equipment and the stamina required by all the team and sponsors is huge. With prize pool of 6 Million Dollars on offer there are no easy race meetings
Kerry Madson is currently running in 12th position overall after 32 shows. Kerry’s last outing was at 1.96 Speedway Lake Odessa, Michigan where he took a heat win and finished 6th in the Main Feature.
Kerry’s younger brother Ian one of the stars on the Australian home circuit is also racing in the States and most recently raced at the Husets Speedway, South Dakota. The STP Outlaw Series will visit Husets on July 3rd.
At Husets Speedway the Dollar Loans Sprint Series saw Madson joined by Brooke Tatnell and Lynton Jefferies as they raced on the 3/8 high banked oval. All three made the A Main which was won by World of Outlaw regular Terry McCarl. In the A main Jefferies finished in 6th place while Tatnell was 12th and Madson 14th.

All three Aussies are regulars at the Knoxville track where Ian Madson is current in 2nd position behind Brian brown in the Track Championship. Brooke Tatnell is current in 6th and Jefferies 11th.
Another Aussie Peter Murphy is currently racing in the North West in the Golden State King of the West Series where Peter swaps slides with Rico Abreu, Kyle Hirst and Jonathan Allard.
Murphy the current New Zealand Sprintcar Champion proudly carries NZ1 on his race car during his US campaign. At his last race meeting at Tulare Murphy captured a heat win and finished the 30 lap A Main in fourth place. Murphy’s next race will be in the “David Tarter Memorial” at the Silver Dollars Speedway Friday June 7
To be based out of the States and to attract sponsors that enable each to compete competitively is a credit to their ability and marketable potential.
Having watched all four races at different time at tracks in Australia it is not surprising to see the success each has had as they attack the sprintcar circuits across the US. Not only great ambassadors for Speedway and Australia, they underline the growing strength and reputation of Sprintcar racing in Australia.
