The winter has started to close in on Brisbane as Archerfield host their last meeting before the winter shutdown.
Most Speedway action around Australia has already stopped for the winter and most of our attention now is on the US as the Sprintcars and mighty midget speedcars race in the STP World of Outlaws and the USAC/Powri events.
On Saturday night my attention was drawn to Brisbane Speedway and the final showdown for the KRE Engine Track Championship.
Todd Wanless and Andrew Scheuerle had been battling over the seven rounds of the championship with the Ausdeck racer always managing to have points in hand. Coming into the last round this was important for Scheuerle as he only had to beat Wanless in the Dash to claim the title.
Chasing each other all year and both make the Dash alongside one another, as it should be.
Scheuerle went on to win the feature from Shaun Dobson and Darren Jensen. Todd Wanless spun while in second and lost any chance of pressuring Scheuerle.
The racing ends on a high for the Ausdeck team, Queensland Sprint car Champion, KRE Engine Track Champion and winner of the last feature race for the season.
The final of the Polar Ice Series for Speedcars was won by New Zealander Michael Kendell from Matt Smith and Troy Ware.
The program closed out with the Compact Speedcars won by Darren Vine , The 360 Sprints went to Anthony Vanderreyden and the Modlites by Michael Kendell
The next event at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway is the annual Speedway Swap Meet on Sunday, July 14. The 2013/2014 racing season gets underway on October 5/6 with two nights of Sprint car racing, Fireworks, Monster Trucks and the NRL Grand Final live on the big screen.
